When situated in the garden surrounded by grasses or other plants this pair of Hares could be easily mistaken for the real thing

The basal foliage though is only about 60cm wide and bushy - the word giant really comes from the tall airy stems of flowers as in my garden the clumps of foliage are only about 50-60cm high with the flowers that float above the foliage

After flowering remove any old tatty leaves and be sure to split it to ensure that it retains its vigour

Veronica longifolia "Blue Shades" is hardy so can withstand cold climates but they can conversely take the heat and drought of summer so a great all-rounder

For the best results, Ajuga like to be grown in moist but well drained soil. Small white flower spikes adorn the plant from spring to mid summer. It can be grown in full sun or partial shade, but more sunlight will give you more flowers. It is ideal for a woodland style garden or a lovely addition to the front of a border for a cottage garden. A great ground cover if
